Eligibility Requirements - Entered active duty after June 30, 1985 and did not decline the Montgomery GI Bill – or if you meet 1 of 4 categories for eligibility. Please visit the Veterans Affairs web site on MGIB-AD or call 1-888-GI-BILL-1 for further clarification.
- Be a degree-seeking student or have an undeclared major for not longer than two semesters. If you are pursuing other educational options contact the VA for approval.
- Maintain good student standing. Your GPA and attendance record will be reported to the VA on a monthly basis.
Benefits - Up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible applicants
- Benefits are prorated based on the number of credit hours that you enroll in
- Benefits must be certified on a monthly basis
How to Apply and Maintain Your Benefit – begin at least 12 weeks before classes begin:
- Complete and submit the Federal Student Aid FAFSA, due March 10th of each year. Visit the FAFSA website for instructions and online forms
- Complete and submit VA Form 22-1990* (Application for VA Benefits). Instructions and online applications are on the Veterans Affairs website
- Once the 22-1990 is processed, you should receive a Certificate of Eligibility outlining how many months and what type of benefits you are eligible to receive. U must then contact the college and let them know that you would like to file for GI Bill benefits .
- The benefit is paid to you.
- To continue to receive your VA payment, you must submit your verification with the Veterans Affairs each month using your social security number.
