This is a new benefit for Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve members ordered to active duty by the President for a contingency operation or national emergency.
Eligibility Requirements - Be a member of a reserve component who has served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 for a period of 90 days
- or more under a contingency operation
- Remain in the Selected Reserve after the active duty period. If you no longer maintain Selected Reserve status, you are not eligible
- for this program. However, you may be eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve for a period of time equal to your time served on active duty plus four months.
- Be a degree-seeking student or have an undeclared major for not longer than two semesters. If you are pursuing other educational options such as certificates, endorsements, licensure programs, contact the VA for approval. Benefits - Individual monthly benefits depend on the amount of active duty time
- Up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible applicants
How to Apply and Maintain Your Benefit - Complete and submit the Federal Student Aid FAFSA, due March 10th of each year. Visit the FAFSA website for instructions and
- online forms.
- If you have never applied for benefits before, complete and submit VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Benefits) and write REAP
- in section one. Instructions and online application are on the Veterans Affairs web site.
- If you are already eligible for VA Education benefits under another program, submit VA Form 22-1995 (Request for Change of program or Place of Training) and note that you now wish to use REAP.
